Wednesday Words: Where is God’s Word?
April 14, 2010 8:55 am Bible, MomsI was reading my Bible the other morning and was struck by the idea of God’s Word being with us. Here’s the story:
Israel and Judah want to fight Moab, but they are unsure if it is God’s will. They decide they can trust the prophet Elisha. Why? “The word of the Lord is with him” (2 Kg 3:12) They believed Elisha would steer them in the right direction because Elisha knew God’s word. He spoke truth from God.

This made me question how much of God’s word do I know and use when making decisions. Each week in my Bible study we are given a verse to memorize. To make it even easier, we are given cute tags with an appropriate stamped picture on it. And…we have a ring to keep all our verses together. How much easier can it be?
But, I have to be honest and say that I have not memorized the verses every week…and I’m the leader. In my mind I know the importance of God’s word in my life, but in my daily actions I’m not storing it in my heart.
Although I read my Bible every day, memorizing it is also important. This week I am making a concerted effort to memorize last week and this week’s verses. I know this will make a difference in my life. The psalmist says:
Thy word have I hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against Thee. (Psalm 119:11 – sorry…old King James version that I learned as a kid)
- Do you hide God’s word in your heart regularly?
- Do you use God’s word to make decisions?
- Do you claim God’s word to keep from sinning?

Kerry,
This was great to see this morning. I think it was a very good WORD for the right season. As leaders, it helps us keep focused and when it’s all said and done, we know we can trust God’s WORD whether it’s in our decision making progress, working with our staff or just loving on children.
