Couponing or Not ? ? ?

Keeping My Home, Specials 4 Comments

Is it really worth the time to use coupons?  When  my kids were young, I used coupons more than I do now.  At that time, you could get double or triple money on some coupons so it was worth it.

You have to decide for yourself if using coupons is worth the time & hassle.  Here are some ideas & websites that might help you.

1.  Organized couponing
Clip coupons and organize them in a small divider that you can take to the store.  A majority of coupons that are used today are from the Sunday paper.  If you find coupons for items your family use, it might be worth paying $1.50 for a 2nd copy of your Sunday paper.

www.couponmom.com
www.thekrazycouponlady.com
www.ppgazette.com

Those sites may also point you towards online coupons that you can print or load on to your smartphone.

2.  Wait to Buy
Since prices change so frequently, you should be able to wait until your items go on sale.  At that time, stock up.  You can use a price book to help you remember what the best prices are.

www.grocerypricebooks.com

3.  Changing stores
Check out mass merchandise stores like WalMart & Target to see if you are getting the best deal.  Check out the dollar stores as well.  It is important to check out the prices here.  Just because you find something at a discount or dollar store, does not mean you are paying less.  I found that the price at HEB was actually less than the nearby warehouse store (Sam’s).

You might need to consolidate your efforts.  When I was first married, I drove to 3-4 different stores to take advantage of the sales prices.  I decided it was not worth my time or my gas to shop at several stores each week.  I now consolidate my shopping and go to WalMart about once every other month.  Stock up on what is cheaper at WalMart.  The other weeks I shop at my local grocery store which has prices that often beat WalMart.

4.  Use store brands
Some store brands are better than the name brands.  Research what you like and how much you can save with store brands.  This may be a matter of opinion in your family.

5.  Loyalty Cards
Give the store your real name & email.  They will send you coupons for items you can actually use.

Website for shortcuts:
www.shortcuts.com/stores

6.  In Store Coupons
Some stores have a board with coupons they offer that week.  Stop by the board to see what items you use that have coupons.  Our store hangs the coupons next to the item.  If it is something we use as a family (even if I don’t need it), I often pick it up and store it for the future.

7.  Online Deals
After I wrote this post, I found one more place you can save a ton of money.  Today I got a $30 certificate to a great restaurant and paid only $15.  I also got $15 from a great meat department at a local grocery store for only $7.  You can find some good deals also.

Here’s where you can get a good deal today, also!

http://budurl.com/yyg7

Finally, if your family does not use an item, don’t buy it.  Too often, we get worked up in the savings and get items we will never use.

If you like this post, please click the fb like at the top of this post.  Be sure to read the comments.  You may get some more ideas.
Please post any other ideas you may have on saving money or couponing.

I’ve Been Kidnapped!

Specials 1 Comment

I thought you might like to read what Steve said about me on our 26th wedding anniversary. Let me know what you think…Kerry

———————-

Help, I’ve been kidnapped!

Actually I’ve been kidnapped by my wife. You see, this week we celebrate 26 years of wedded bliss and my wife has kidnapped me for a romantic get-away.

I know, too much information, right? :-)

But it was a COMPLETE surprise.

I had to cancel the restaurant reservation and flower delivery I made to surprise HER!

But that brings up an interesting topic.

Freedom.

She didn’t make these plans until 2 days ago. And we just up and jumped on a plane to Charelston.

Now that’s freedom.

I didn’t have to ask permission from a boss.

I didn’t have to check the bank account.

I didn’t have to use any sick days.

I just went.

Do you want that kind of freedom?

We are having a 4th of July Freedom Sale for homeschooling & home business.
Check it out here: http://familyebiz.com/freedom/

This 4th of July, declare your own independence!

Blessings,
Stephen Beck

Should Freedom Matter to Homeschoolers?

Homeschooling, Specials 4 Comments

Should Freedom Matter to Homeschoolers?

You better believe it should!

Too often Americans take their freedoms for granted.  Just look at families around the world whose country does not allow them to homeschool.  They are fighting for their freedom to raise their children according to their beliefs & values.  Although this article is not about the fight for freedom, I think it is important that we as homeschoolers recognize all the freedoms we have.

As we prepare to celebrate our political freedom on July 4, let’s take a look at what we have in the United States.

Freedom to Choose

Parents have the right to choose how, when  & where their children will be educated.  I know there are some limitations in some states, but overall you have the freedom to choose:

…how you spend your time each day with your kids

…what’s most important to teach your children during different stages of their growth

…what values you will teach your children

…what faith you will instill in your children

…what style of teaching you will use in your homeschool

…whether you will teach inside, outside or on a field trip

…if you should participate in a co-op, use a video, play games, read a book or some other method to teach reading, writing & arithmetic (& much more)

…the list can go on & on

As homeschooling parents you have a myriad of freedoms.  Do you realize all the freedoms you have?

Freedom to Serve

Most of the time we think of freedoms that help us do what we want to do or how we want to homeschool.  One of the most important freedoms is the freedom to serve others.

As your children are homeschooled, be sure to regularly involve them in service projects.  I’m not talking about “service programs”.  What I’m referring to is real life service to those around you.  It begins by teaching your sons to open the doors for ladies…all ladies.  It continues by watching your neighbor’s child when they have to visit a friend in the hospital.  Or, taking a meal to an elderly friend.

These are everyday, ordinary ways of training your children to serve.  They should be part of your life already so your kids will enjoy the Freedom to Serve by Serving.

Freedom from Classroom

Although I’ve mentioned this above, you are not confined to a classroom.  Most public & private schools spend 99% of their time in a classroom, sitting in a desk, working through a textbook.  This is not the best way to learn.

You have the freedom to use the BEST homeschool resources possible.  (And yes, I’ll be discounting some of those homeschooling resources in our Freedom Sale this Friday, July 1st)

Homeschooling resources include real living books (not textbooks), unit studies, hands-on activities, lapbooks, science experiments, visits to museums & parks, nature studies…Real Learning where real life is happening.

Freedom to Sleep In

Let’s face it.  Sometimes you need some extra sleep.  I remember when my middle daughter was playing basketball games out of town in her high school years.  They would get home at midnight from some games. (We got home earlier because she rode the team bus).  Her teammates had to get up for school the next morning.  She had the freedom to sleep in, feel rested and be ready for a productive day.

Sleeping In isn’t necessarily lazy.  Sleep is so important and we often don’t take advantage of this freedom.

Freedom to do school anywhere & everywhere, all day long

Remember: education is a lifetime experience, not a 12 year experience and you’re done.  Education happens all day long, so take advantage of those educational opportunities when they arise in your homeschool.

Teach character when your children are arguing

Teach biology when you notice the bugs at the park

Teach math when you are in the grocery store

The list can go on and on.  You have the freedom to educate your children all day long.  It is a blessing & a freedom, so take advantage of it.

Freedom Sale

As I stated earlier, we are preparing a Freedom Sale to help you homeschool.  I’ll be posting the links here on July 1.  I’ll also send an email to you if you get my homeschool ezine.  If you don’t get it, you can sign up here:

12 Days of Christmas Special

Bible, Christmas, Holiday, Specials No Comments

Last year I had a 12 Days of Christmas special that ran from Dec 25 until 12th Night on Jan 6.  In case you did not know, the 12 Days of Christmas are AFTER Christmas, not before Christmas.

Since I’m running a bit behind I wanted to run a special that relates to Epiphany (Jan 6).  Epiphany is our celebration of the Wise Men following the star of Bethlehem to worship Jesus.  We’ve been celebrating Epiphany on Jan 6 with a special meal for the past 4 years.  I’ll share that celebration meal tomorrow.

Today I want to offer you the chance to get our Star of Bethlehem Family Study Guide a significantly reduced rate (1/2 price).

Why, you might ask?

On December 23, I watched the Star of Bethlehem live presentation.  Once again, God used the information about the Star to remind me how AWESOME He is.  How miraculous His works are!  Reviewing the 9 clues into the mystery of the Star is inspiring.  Matthew 2 gives you so many details that we often overlook.

For that reason, I want to make this affordable for all families.  We’re slashing the price in 1/2.  I can’t think of a better way to bless Christians at this time of year.

When you grab a copy of our Star of Bethlehem Family Study Guide, you can print out as many copies as you need for your IMMEDIATE family.  January is a great time to do an astronomy study and really dig deep to discover what the Star was.

Grab your copy HERE

See what Cindy Rushton has to say about our Star of Bethlehem Family Study Guide:

The Study is Called Star of Bethlehem Bible Study Ebook. Not only is there a fresh focus on God’s AWESOME communication with us throughout time, but you will learn more astronomy than YEARS of study in a text! Kerry takes you deeply into the Word of God to dig out what God has to say about stars, astronomy, astrology, and neatest of all, how God used STARS to tell about His plan for salvation through Jesus Christ!

I am hoping to use this great info that we are uncovering to make a cute lapbook (unless it grows into a whole BOOK!) as our final project at the end of our study. If you are like me and find yourself a bit intimidated when thinking of Astronomy Studies, this is the book for you! AND…if you are looking for a great Bible Study, don’t wait!

~~Cindy Rushton, Rushton Family Ministries ~~

This special is available through the end of this week, Friday, Jan 7.  Click here to get your FAMILY study guide – one copy for each family member…only $9.97
